Hunter Bunter back on the ballfield!

I got to see something that made my heart very happy this past weekend!

My oldest nephew, Hunter, was on the baseball field again!
It's been YEARS since I have seen him play!! He has gone through a "non sports" phase, and basically was just totally uninterested. He was attending our HUGE high school, that is practically the scale of a small university!! And I truly mean that the powers that be at this school thinks it IS a university. Sometimes, I think the standards at this school are totally ridiculous!! Should a kid be interested in a sport... that means NOTHING!
The kid has to be a total star/ standout, and other somewhat political tricklings that I won't mention here, is how said kid MIGHT get to play on the team! Hunter is no longer at that school. He is now at a more rural high school. One where you drive in on a dirt road to the ballpark, instead of one with a new $50,000 scoreboard!
And I'll be honest with you, it is VERY refreshing!! (Understand, my kids are in the school zone to attend big, bad school too! So, I need to get on over it, start my kids in gymnastics at age four so they have a SHOT at cheering in high school, put on my big girl panties and deal!!)
Hunter has always been more of the country boy type. He likes to hunt, fish, drive a big ol truck and really likes to hang out with his fellow country boy buds. So, this school is suiting him just fine!! And if he's happy, I am VERY HAPPY. And I am soooo proud to see him back on the ballfield, ENJOYing playing vs. constantly competing to play! And as I was choosing the photos for this post, I saw this picture and felt that his little brother, Jake, was shining down with pride too!! We love you, Hunter.

As a baseball and football Momma I completely understand about the BIG school and wanting to be able to ACTUALLY PLAY sports! That's one reasons why my boys are in a small (ok,private) school. Those HUGE schools scare me plus I wanted the boys to have a better chance to play multiple sports without the huge numbers of kids competing for a limited number of team positions. It is soooo good to have them learn valuable lessons of teamwork, responsibility, integrity, and accountability that sports provides!Very proud for Hunter and so glad he is doing well!Go TEAM HUNTER!

Very excited to hear Hunter is enjoying sports and school! YEAH! I have a son named Hunter as well. He's only 9 but loves him some baseball! We don't start until mid April up "north" but we are pretty excited about it!! I went to a very large high school. But things are a lot different now a days. I'm glad we are in a small community but I do miss all of the options that a bigger city has to offer.
Anyway, good luck Hunter!!

Hugs from Missouri,
Shari

I totally hear ya on the sports thing! I graduated in a class of 42. My girls are in a combined school, but still very small compared to what some are. Even at a 7th grade level, we are already competing to play. When did we lose the "for fun and learning" phase... why must we always WIN?????

Totally understand! Lots of high school sports are unfortunately that way. I'm glad Hunter found a good fit for him. I love watching my boys play some they enjoy.
