Valentine boxes at school

I'm almost off the kindergarten hall, I promise!!  But I  have to hang out there just a weeeee bit longer!
Please bear with me as I brag a bit on my kid.... Can you guess which one of the above jesters is Ellie's?  I LOVE it!  She is the last one... the one with flesh-toned skin, a detailed purple gold and green striped hat, and a big red nose.  Oh, and matching green shoes to boot.  Bless her heart, she gets it honestly!  We definitely do our fair share of coloring and creating at this homestead.
What we DID NOT do well is create a Valentine's day box.  I got in from Tucson on Sunday night and found out that the boxes were due the next day.  NOT enough time for me to round up a box and help my little precious make it fab.u.lous!!
So, we started scrounging! The other kids' were really creative.  ANd Ellie was most impressed by the above kitty cat gift bag and Chalilisa's Priority Mail box, as it was the biggest one in the class.
Break for Mardi Gras.  In Louisiana, it's a little confusing in February.  We know, instinctively that we should be celebrating Valentine's Day, but then, there's the whole Fat Tuesday to prepare for too.  Our kindergarten teacher squeezes both celebrations in!
I, personally, liked Kenner's box!  Good job, REBECCA!!!  I KNOW Kenner did not do one thing on that box!  And YES, I am calling you out on it, because I know you read my blog!  Next time I am out of town, I'll be calling so you can make a girly one too, while you are at it!

As it turns out, we didn't even have a spare shoe box in our house!  I was strapped!

But we DID get a whole bunch of goodies together to give to all the teachers, principals, librarians, the computer lab teacher, and other helpers.  It is the first holiday I have gotten all of that accomplished, so not having the world's greatest box was made up for in this area.
And here it is.  We had this hot pink storage box in Gabbi's closet (and might I say it was doing what it was supposed to be doing... STORING things!).
But desperate times call for desperate measures.  So, I let daddy cut a slit in the top of it, and Ellie got to decorating.   Luckily I had bought all kinds of Valentine's day stickers for them to use at daycare when they were off for a few days and I didn't want Ellie to be bored at an in home daycare without a project to do.  I am psycho that way.

And another lucky thing.... finding all of these on mark down at Target.
Oh, and in the Dollar bin at Target.
The goodie baskets Ellie ended up giving out were pretty awesome.  They even had Valentine colored washi tape!!

ANd high heel paper clips.  And Valentine's Day pencils.

Yep, what can I say?  I would've LOVED to have gotten that!  But then again, not everyone has the affinity for cute office supplies that I do.
We also did initials in vinyl on little cosmetic/ pencil bags in heart and arrow motifs.  We did V Day gifts up RIGHT!!
And the Twix with pipe cleaners tied on top was just a last minute scramble for some cuteness.
I took that box back after the party and pulled off all the stickers.  It is a nice, sturdy box, and now that it has a slit in it, is perfect for next year's box too!  I'll have a kindergartener and a first grader next year, so I'm quite sure I'll be making two more.

Until next V Day...

It looks like it was all a success after all; and fun!

Does this mean you have decided to send Gabbie to Kindergarten next year? By the way, my kindergarteners box was a hello kitty shoe box that we glued a a pink paper square with her name over the size/price square. There was not any extra decorations at all. So, Ellie's looks great.

I wish my last minute throw togethers were as awesome as yours. Good job mom! And the gifts were precious!

I love that you guys still get to celebrate so much at school. Here not so much. My son did make a great valentine's day box though - it was a toilet. He made everyone flush it too and it had sound effects.

Gosh, I think you did a GREAT job with everything...Valentine box included! Those kids had to be thrilled with the little gifts you gave them. Who am I kidding...I would be thrilled with them, too! ;-)

HAHAHAHA! How could you tell that Kenner didn't make his own robot box? Ha! He is such a grouchy pants that he liked it up until we were in the school line to drop it off and then said he just wanted a plain one. he actually said he liked the box before i put anything on it...just an orange Nike box. Ugh! And we LOVED Ellie's cards...very creative!
