TEAMJAKE garage sale 2009.

Yep. We are looking at TEAMJAKE 2009. Our 6th year, (I think)! And like every year so far, we have a really big team growing, one of the biggest, I am pretty sure. We are also front runners in fundraising for St. Jude.

This is a fundraiser that Karl and LoriAnn Kaufman, our team leaders, have put together for TEAMJAKE. It is a raffle for a WalMart card. Tickets are $5. The card is $500. Pretty good deal, huh?
I am working on a similar raffle style fundraiser too. Sooooo, if you would like to contribute to TEAMJAKE 2009, start checking out the blog this week and I will show you how you can. Thinking jewelry/ canvases/ etc!! Maybe even a condo stay!

I would also like to know how many of you have an interest in a TEAMJAKE 2009 tee shirt. Staci will soon be ordering them, and if sales could support the team, then I will make sure she orders more. If interested, please indicate in the comments section today! Thanks.
But today's post is about the fundraiser we had this past weekend. A big ol' garage sale. And it brought in about a thousand bucks! Woooo Hoooo!

This is Mr. McClure. He and his wife (Lori Ann's parents) have been instrumental in supporting TEAMJAKE and helping with the garage sale in a big, big way for the past two years.
This is Lori Ann. I will never forget the first year that she and Karl came up to Memphis, where Jake was still undergoing treatment. I remember meeting them at the Heroes party AFTER Karl had run a full marathon. I was pretty overwhelmed. Just all around overwhelmed! Touched that friends would come 5 hours, run for hours, and then smile and encourage Jake who was not feeling very good that day as he peeked up from a snuggled spot in his stroller.
The Kaufmans are good, good friends!

The garage sale was held at Staci and Don's old house. The old house that they have not yet sold. The old house that has not been totally cleaned out yet! So, this garage sale was really instrumental in getting Staci's hiney inside to haul out boxes of stuff to sell. Like this....
many, many X-Box games that she came across inside. We sold them for 5 bucks each. Pretty good deal for some moms and dads who were going to be buying these for Christmas gifts!
Veronicia dutifully manned the cash register. She is always there to help. A very strong contributor to all things that honor Jake's legacy! She is family.
Well, this is the old hood. Actually, it is STILL my hood, as I live right down the road! (not for long though!)
and does this yard bring back memories? gosh... it does for me!
I remember my little man riding his little four wheeler all around this baby oak tree.
Ok, I can't stand it... let me take you down memory lane...
Summer 2005. One of Jake' s absolute favorite things to do. Play in the front yard with his brothers. And usually on a four wheeler!
No, of course not. Staci and Don didn't require a helmet, but he LOVED to be "big" like his brothers. And they DID require a helmet. Sooooo....
Except when Jake was being taken for a spin and needed the head protection. That boy is in HOG HEAVEN here. Actually BOTH of them are!
Does anyone remember Jake's funny "tricks" ? Gosh, is he my Ellie Sue or what!?
Poor kid could hardly hold his head up on his shoulders with this big ol' helmet. He so loved his big brothers!
And this driveway....
Oh, the memories.
This is one of those times that Jake had gotten back to walking. Look at that proud face!
Ok, back to today. Back to WHY we do these fundraisers... for St. Jude to save other kids who have cancer. and for JOR Foundation. to support other families going through this devastating disease/ time! Fundraising. It is important!

And I did my part for the fundraiser. It is hilarious that I brought a lot of these clothes, then bought them back when I remembered someone who needed them! Oh well, all for a good cause, right?! Gabbi Girl's birthmom called and needed some warm clothes. So, we are killing two birds with this haul.
As for this final purchase... well it is all for me! I LOVE that frame! Don't want Audrey though. Anyone local want her?! I can see a Gabbi/ Ellie portrait in this big ol black and gold frame. And I gots lots of wallspace coming soon!
Thanks to all of you who were there to help, who contributed the goods, and who came shopping! If you are interested in joining TEAMJAKE, (it's not too late! and we need runners and cheerleaders!!), go to believeteamjake.com Scroll down on that screen and you will see a little slideshow of pictures from marathons past.

Mo (oooooh. I like that red!)

Your family is a God Sent. I am over whelmed at how much you all sacrifice for these children. I never actually met Angel Jake but followed his story from almost the start. It is just wonderful if there is anything I can ever do to help out just holler. Thanks for the post down memory lane.

Me me for a tshirt (size M) please!!!!! Love this memory lane and LOVE that I've actually seen that drive way in real true life......just wish I had met Jake! It's really strange that Bowen is already 2 1/2 and I can't imagine what he was like at that age! Great cause and great support from very dedicated people......YOURSELF included!

Of course we want shirts, at least 6 of them. Hey, I was just thinking maybe you could mention in your blog the Team Jake fundraiser we are having in Homer this Sunday, Nov. 15th at Nickey's for those followers that may be in the area. I hate that I couldn't make the garage sale, I really wanted to come help.
